Happy Early Valentine’s Day Isodifj,

We’re going with the theme of love this month...helping you love your work in 2011. We’re finding that with the economy starting to bounce back, people are thinking about changing careers again into something better. Inquiries on our website have more than doubled since 6 months ago. And the good news is most of those people are employed. People are back to actively managing their careers again; they’re being more pro-active and choosing what they want to do next instead of settling for less or just falling into something/reacting to what happens to them. That’s the way it should be so this is a good sign.

Using LinkedIn in your job search: My husband, who fortunately has started to get back to work through contact positions, was a parent teacher for Vaughn last week at his new school. Here’s a pic. The two positions he has secured were through networking. And guys, one of the positions came directly through LinkedIn. The company found and contacted him directly on LinkedIn--they didn’t advertise their position. More important career tips like this are on my blog as part of the improvements to our blog that we discussed last month.

In this issue: Fall in love with your job. Yes it sounds corny but it’s possible--I love what I do every day. Career Corner shows you how to pursue your dream in a practical way.

Fall in Love With Your Job

Two weeks ago I was featured in an article on CNN titled, Trading a six-figure salary to become a teacher. The story was about a man, Jon Fitch, who gave up his six-figure salary job to study and become a teacher (his dream job). He was unhappy in his current job even though he made a lot of money. Not everyone can afford to make a dramatic career change like he did and just up and quit, but that doesn’t have to stop you from finding your dream job.

Two important points to keep in mind:

1) Remember doing what Jon Fitch did and having enough savings to live off of is only one of MANY ways to realize your dream career. Read further in the CNN article and you’ll see that I made my dream a reality by having a bridge job – a job that paid my bills while I was working towards becoming a career coach

2) Jon’s career change is dramatic. He’s taking a much lower paying job, in a different industry, in a time when the economy is tough. What I find, fortunately, is that most career changes don’t have to be this dramatic. With my clients, 7 times out of 10, they don’t make a change into a career that is completely different from their current career.

Your transition may seem bigger than it actually is, just because you’re so frustrated. Take a step back, a deep breath, and re-assess how dramatic your change really needs to be to make you happy!
