Client Success Story: Client Ben recently conducted an informational interview about a career in logistics. He gathered an enormous amount of information about the industry and as a result feels it could be a great fit for him. The time he took to do this interview helped him seal the deal on his ideal career path! Ben also spoke to a connection in Atlanta in Industrial Psychology and was able to rule that idea out based on what he learned. What you discover could be very revealing! Career Corner 'Tis The Season for Networking The great thing about networking is you can tell everyone you know that you're looking for a job. This includes friends, family, acquaintances, fellow students – even professors. You never know who might know someone in the field you're interested in. Keep your resume updated and your business card handy if you have one, so that when an opportunity arises you can easily pass this information along. Keep this in mind as we roll into the holiday season. Use holiday parties and family gatherings to connect with those who may have experience or knowledge of their desired industry. Do a little homework before any gathering so you are ready with questions. Make sure you have your own ‘plug’ to use within this built-in network. Here are some key tips to help you get the most out of your networking this holiday season: 1) Don't be shy - ask for the referral. People are usually happy to help - and the worst they can say is no. Remember... nothing ventured, nothing gained. Ask for that letter of recommendation or testimonial. Have a list of names handy to write in the "referrals" spot of your job applications - and be sure to keep their phone numbers and email addresses up to date and on file. 2) Follow up. If someone refers you to someone who lands you paid work, a temp gig or especially a full-time job, don't forget to thank the referrer with a hand-written note of appreciation. Keep them in mind as someone whom you may want to do something nice for in the future. 3) Most importantly, be yourself. You want a job that suits your style, personality, and unique skill set... right? The best way to find one is to just put it out there and see what comes back. *Need help with your career transition?
