How to Survive Tough Times

CAREER SUCCESS GUIDE
February 2008
Dear Jsidufh,

Surviving Tough Times

With the increase in gas and food prices, as well as the unemployment rate, we all know that you've got to be resourceful to continue to achieve career goals.  Sometimes, it's a matter of settling for a little less than what you had last year - - sometimes it's just sheer survival.

One of my clients recently faced the prospect of not only being unemployed, but having to find a new position during the holiday season last December.  I advised him to increase the number of hours devoted to searching for a position and to consider other avenues to uncover opportunities. The key word here is "opportunities," because when times are tough it's important to see opportunity everywhere.  And sometimes we can stumble over new and unexpected opportunities when we widen our perspective.  It means stepping out of the zone of comfort that surrounds us and keeps us unable to see things differently.

Sheer survival means recognizing when to cut back (decreasing our expenses) but refusing to cut back on what we know will help us in the long run.  Everything has a season - - bad times come and go - - and as a result,  we have to maintain our perspective and our focus to achieve our (career, financial, personal, etc.) goals.

Affordable E-Consultation Services

If you're seeking a new position or career
... then, let's face the truth:  most professionals seeking new positions generally understand the steps needed to begin a job search.  You make some changes to your resume, you contact a couple of people in your network (friends, recruiters, associates, etc.),  you check out the internet job boards, and you begin to circulate your resume.  And then you wait.... and wait....

It's also likely that you're still attempting to hold onto a position  that no longer fits your interests or qualifications.  Still working a full work week and finding that you have minimal time to effectively search for a new job.  Everyone's saying that you need to devote full-time hours to find a new job.  And you're thinking "who has the time?"

I have consulted with many job seekers who wanted to know the most efficient way to manuever through the black holes, the roadblocks, and land a new job.  So, I have created career and job search consultation services that provide timely career advice in a format that takes only a few minutes of your time.

How do E-Consultations work?  The Beacon E-Consultation Service is designed to give you more personalized advice than you'll ever find in a book or article.  Also, the 1-Day service provides professional service at a highly affordable rate ($27.00).  Request and receive a comprehensive, 40+ page assessment of your current job search.  Included in this assessment is professional advice designed to help you:
  • effectively organize your job search strategy
  • revise or create a resume that will  get you noticed
  • answer any type of job interview question
  • conduct your job search on the internet  (job boards, social networking sites, etc.)
  • shorten your job search

  • find unadvertised jobs and the managers who make hiring decisions

Through my E-Consultation Service, we will work to ensure you can focus on what's important to you:  getting a new position.

You can select the most convenient package based on your needs:  1 Day E-Consultation; 15 Day E-Consultation; or 30 Day E-Consultation.
