Career Corner Don't Just Survive: 5 Ways to Thrive During Your Career Transition This topic was requested by Rhonda Thompson - thanks Rhonda! A lot of people are in transition these days. And bottom-line: Transition creates stress. Whether we're in transition by choice or not, this stress can wreak havoc on our mental, physical and spiritual well-being. At this time in your life, more than ever, you need to pay attention to the effects of that stress and learn to take care of yourself when you're in transition. Here are 5 great ways to get started: 1. Keep a career journal: Journaling is an extremely effective way to manage your career transition and maintain a healthy perspective. Devote at least two nights per week to writing down your thoughts about your transition. 2. Set boundaries: Life can get overwhelming when you're in transition. Set boundaries for yourself as a way to curb the feelings of overwhelm. 3. Exercise your body while you expand your mind: Regular exercise is vital to your well-being, especially at a time of career change when stress levels are higher. Make it a priority to engage in some kind of aerobic exercise at least 3 times a week. 4. Get support: It's easy to get discouraged by the frightening statistics about the job market. At this time more than ever, you need to surround yourself with positive and optimistic people who will support you during your transition. 5. Accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative: When you're in transition, sometimes it can seem like there are naysayers at every turn. This is exactly what you must avoid if you're serious about thriving during your transition. This isn't a quick fix, but trust me, it's possible. Keep the Negative Nellies and other defeating influences at bay. Remember that, you deserve and require a balanced life of learning, new experiences, solitary time, activity and spiritual growth, especially during times of transition. *For more help with your transition, listen to my complimentary teleclass recording for "Creating Career Possibilities for Yourself in Three Short Steps."
