Here's to having a career you love, Hallie Crawford, Certified Career Coach Inspiration for Identifying Your Ideal Career – Jenn's Story Jenn Williams is a client who just finished working with me as an individual coaching client. When we started coaching, she’d worked in theatre for several years. And although theater is one of her passions, she was unhappy with her career path. It wasn't exactly the right fit. Jenn wanted to make a change, and she didn't want to settle for less than a job she truly enjoyed. She wanted to find her dream job. Jenn hired me to help her identify her ideal career and make it a reality. Now she has found something she loves and is on her way to making it happen. Here's an excerpt from her story and a link to the full story. Any "words of wisdom" to share with others who are taking steps to create their own paths? Listen to that little voice inside of you. We all have it and a lot of us choose to ignore it because we think we know what we're "supposed" to be doing. But supposed to according to whom? How to handle being laid off and identify your ideal career in the process (Excerpt, read entire article here.) If you were just laid off from your job, one small consolation is - you're not alone. Here's the deal: Obviously you did not create the weak economy leading to this event. BUT - you ARE in total control of how you respond to that event. Keep these three tips in mind when forging ahead on your path to a more fulfilling and rewarding career: -
Commit yourself to making a change. Are you 100% committed to finding a career that fits? Seriously, ask yourself and make sure it's 100% because if it's not, you're less likely to succeed. -
Learn to overcome obstacles. To be successful in changing career paths, you need to learn to overcome obstacles you will encounter along the way. Two obstacles I see time and time again for people wanting to make a career change are: not knowing what to look for in a job (so they take one that is “good enough” that they don't truly enjoy) and negative beliefs--not believing they can successfully make the change. With practice, you can re-train your mind to see past perceived limitations. Professional athletes do this all the time! You can too. -
Get support. I was able to very successfully make my career transition into coaching in large part because of my own coach. Support from a group, coach or mentor to remind you to stay positive and focused is critical to success. So get support from a career coach like me or someone else who can provide solid guidance and the resources you need to move ahead with your plans.
