The news reports are both heartbreaking - seeing the damage and inspiring - seeing how people are pulling together to help each other. We are thinking of you. I visited a pumpkin patch recently with Vaughn and my mom, here's a silly picture of me and the "Great Pumpkin" my mom bought for her house that I wanted to share with you.. Have an attitude about your search - In This Issue: It's the season for giving thanks and gratitude - trying to focus on what we do have instead of what we don't. And especially for you job seekers out there, I know this can be very difficult, but your attitude in your search matters. So please do what it takes to improve that for yourself. Take a day off from your search, get outside, do something you love that fills you. Our Career Corner article will help you do that! Talking politics at work? I was excited to be interviewed last week for JobWeek for an article about talking politics at work. Great, extremely timely relevant topic. The basic advice I gave was 1) remember you are always "on" at work and 2) keep it light! We will post the article when it's available online. Client Success Story to Help You Create Your Own: I recently was excited to hear from my career coaching client, James. He was pumped up because he nailed an interview with a tech security company and got asked back for the second round! James shared with me that he was confident and prepared going into the interview and it really paid off! He had a support system too which really helped boost his confidence. Lastly, this was a job that he really wanted and was enthusiastic about which really showed in the interview. Nice work James! Complimentary Career Advice - YouTube

Career Corner Thanksgiving can help you stay positive through your job search It’s November, and Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away. This is the time of year where we should give thanks and reflect on what we are grateful for, but sometimes it’s not that easy. It can be hard to count your blessings, especially if you’re going through a rough patch in your career transition. If you’re frustrated in your job search, try to focus on the positives to get you through. What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving? Make a list to remind yourself that there still is plenty to smile about. A positive attitude might be the missing piece to your career transition. Job search is tough, but if you go into your job search with the wrong attitude, it’s going to be a downward spiral with a potentially unhappy ending. The good news is that you can help prevent this. You need to make career decisions from a position of strength or possibility and not out of fear, weakness or other negative feelings. It may take practice, but creating that feeling of strength and optimism can happen. This will help you to bolster you outlook on your job search: -
Worrying does NOT help – Taking action does. Do something about the challenges you’re facing. This not only helps you tackle each challenge head on, it also empowers and motivates you to continue to achieve success along your career path! -
Evaluate your decision making process – Take some time to notice how you approach your decisions. Are you approaching them with confidence and strength? If the answer is yes, then you’ll know that you’re getting a positive outcome as a result of this positive attitude and actions. If you approach decisions with fear or anger, then, conversely, you’ll notice the result is much less constructive. -
Practice being positive – Consciously practicing being positive may feel strange at first so take small steps. How are you feeling about the decisions you are making. If you are experiencing ‘bad vibes’ then it might be time to shift your mindset, or to table that important decision until you feel more comfortable and confident. -
Invest in yourself – While money may seem tight right now, one of your best bets is to spend resources making yourself invaluable to your current or potential employer. When you invest in your education – through additional classes to beef up skills or through advanced programs to learn new skills – you enhance your value and marketability. *Would you like help through your career transition?
