Hi Isodifj,

Happy March! Hope you are getting ready for spring. March is my birthday month and as I am writing this I'm taking some needed time off. Here's a photo from my birthday celebration.

In This Issue - Does the idea of networking create a knot in your stomach?

I find when I mention the word networking to clients, they typically groan or cringe. And honestly, I sometimes feel the same way! The problem is, it's a necessary tool for your career success whether it's your transition or while you're employed. In our Career Corner we talk about 3 ways to stay in touch easily. And - check out this blog post regarding getting over those apprehensions, fears or negative thoughts about networking: http://halliecrawford.com/careerblog/2013/career-transition/3-tips-to-help-you-network-more-authentically/. We have to do it, might as well find a way to make it work.

1) Job Search Handbook: Find out how to network more effectively and transition into a new job you enjoy using the practical, tangible advice on your job search in this handbook, including how to leverage social media.

2) 60 Day Online Ideal Career Program: This new program is going very well and is an affordable, easy way to find your career direction. It includes an interactive version of our 120 page Ideal Career Workbook (our complete coaching process!) plus unlimited online feedback from me as your coach along the way. If you are interested in participating, email admin@halliecrawford.com for more information.

3) Upcoming Ideal Career programs: Our UGA Career Intensive sold out last week so we are holding another one starting next week. If you are an alum or know one, you can register here.

Client Success Story to Help You Create Your Own:

You have to focus on learning from others and their career journey. I was so happy hear from a client recently, Andrea, who said, "Having that discussion on the call was one of the most motivating and eye-opening conversations of this program, mostly because I felt that Tracy and I were in very similar positions. Everything you and Tracy said about her decision to leave her job has inspired me and given me the confidence to do the same for myself." Learn from others, their successes or failures, and use those lessons to apply to your personal situation as needed. Instead of falling into the trap of negative comparison, pro-actively seek out people to learn from. Conduct informational interviews with them about how they got to where they are, and what they learned along the way. You'll be surprised at how helpful, and inspiring, it can be!

Three Tips to Stay Connected With Your Chosen Industry

It is absolutely crucial to stay on top of industry trends when you are in career transition. This should be a routine part of your networking process. I am always stressing to my career coaching clients to utilize all of their networking connections, and to use all outlets to stay informed about their chosen industry.

My career coaching client, Lisa, is currently in job search mode. I am so proud of her efforts to stay on top of industry trends and to stay connected with networking contacts in the industry.

Here are three tips from Lisa's story that can help you move forward in your career transition:

1. Know The Industry - Lisa has made a habit of reading industry magazines to stay informed about current events within her chosen field. This is a great way to learn what’s going on and what new opportunities might be out there for you.

2. Know The Company - She also reads about the company that she is specifically interested in. Researching about the place you want to work and ‘staying current’ can really help keep you on track to land a job there in the future.

3. Know Your Connections - Another thing she has done effectively is to talk with networking contacts and mention what she knows about their company (Note: she wouldn’t be able to do this as effectively if she did not stay up to date with the company). What a great way to make a first impression and to get your foot in the door!

Staying informed about your desired industry and even your desired company, not only helps you know where to turn next in your job search, but it can help you during the interview process to make an impression that won’t be forgotten.
