Hi Isodifj!!

Happy 4th for those of you in the states! We had such heavy rain here in Atlanta that most of the fireworks were postponed until Labor Day instead. We're bummed about the fireworks, but grateful to have the rain which keeps Atlanta so green and lush. On vacation recently (when it was sunny) I got to practice my golf swing (which is not so hot!!) at a fun place called Top Golf. Check it out if there's one in your area, it's fun!

In This Issue - How to win big at career fairs

Career fairs are a great way to meet multiple employers with openings in a quick and easy format. And - because it's quick - you need to be on your game. Have your resume updated (see right hand side here to learn about our resume services), business cards and elevator pitch at the ready. Our Career Corner explains how to put your best foot forward.

Client Story to Help You Create Your Own

We were happy to receive positive feedback from a client working with one of our associate coaches, Beryl Greenberg. We believe her story can help you with your job search...

"...Beryl asked me the question, 'Do you want a job now or do you want to identify your ideal career?' This question stung because the reality was I wanted both simultaneously. My answer was “Yes!” Beryl repeated the question, to which I did not initially respond well because in my mind I needed income and a purpose. Looking back now, I know that she needed me to see the value of committing to the work behind the Ideal Career Path program..."

The problem is, if you don't know your career path, and conduct a job search without knowing it, you could end up in the wrong place. Also, you'll come across in your search as scattered and unfocused. Take the time to figure out your direction, then conduct your search. This doesn't mean you have to wait forever to get started! Going on interviews and networking can help you narrow down your options. But don't go out there completely unfocused, you'll waste your time and be frustrated in the long run.

10 Tips to Prepare for a Stellar Performance at Career Fairs

Career fairs are a great opportunity for job seekers to network, get to know what companies are hiring, and learn more about their chosen industry as well as apply for possible positions!! These days, with so many people out of work, they can be mobbed. Too many seekers we find sign up for the fair, print out their resume and go. There is a lot more to prepping for a career fair effectively, and because this is an opportunity to shine in front of employers who are hiring you need to take it as seriously as a job interview. You could be looking at your next employer across that table so you have to make a good impression.

Here are 10 tips to help you make the most of your next career fair:

1. Find a list of employers that will be there.
2. Identify the top employers that you want the opportunity to meet.
3. Research the company and their current news so that you can prepare what you want to say to them.
4. Have well thought out questions that you want to ask them about the company.
5. Dress up and look professional (this seems obvious, but I went to career fair and a woman was wearing sneakers with a suit and it did not come off well).
6. Have a business card with your contact information to hand out as you make networking contacts.
7. Get your elevator pitch ready and practice it before the day of the career fair.
8. Always use a FIRM handshake when introducing yourself.
9. Look the people that you meet directly in the eyes.
10. Say something that makes a good impression and will make them remember you.

Remember, your first impression counts even more at a career fair because you are only going to have a couple minutes with them. Take the time to prepare yourself and put your best foot forward. Your career is depending on it!
